Weather in Egypt

Egyptian summers are hot and dry in most of the country and humid in the delta and along the Mediterranean coast.

In the coastal region, the average annual temperature ranges from a maximum of 37 °C (99 °F) to a minimum of 14 °C (57 °F). Deserts experience large temperature swings, ranging from a maximum of 46 degrees Celsius (114 degrees Fahrenheit) during the day to a minimum of 6 degrees Celsius (42 degrees Fahrenheit) after sunset. During winter, temperatures in the desert often drop to 0 °C (32 °F).

The wettest areas are on the Mediterranean coast, where the average annual rainfall is about 200 mm. In the south, precipitation is rapidly decreasing. Cairo receives an average of only about 29mm of rain per year, and in many desert areas it may only rain once every few years!

Between March and April there are 50 days, called “fifties”, when sandstorms can occur intermittently and blow in different places depending on the direction of the wind. Remember to always cover your head!
